Tingira Reserve sits between two dynamic edges- the urban edge of New South Head Road and the tidal edge of Rose Bay and Sydney Harbour. It also marks the end of the Rose Bay shopping strip and acts as a threshold space to Lyne Park and the promenade up to Point Piper. A well used walking track across the reserve bears testament to the desire to seek out the waters edge.
Woollahra Council and the community called for an upgrading of the existing Tingira Memorial, built in memory of the HMAS Tingira, a training ship for the Australian Navy once moored off this location. The project integrates the new Tingira Memorial into the spatial layout of the park as a whole and connects the memorial and the park to the waters of Rose Bay and Sydney Harbour beyond. The design builds on an already existing view of the harbour that is revealed and enhanced by a small series of interventions.
