The Balfour Street Park project involved the creation of a small scale neighbourhood park incorporating the existing geometry of the streets and introducing locally scaled stormwater management. Formed through the road closure between O’Connor and Wellington Streets, the new park forms a gateway to the Carlton United Brewery site, from the suburb of Chippendale.
The design:
– Used high quality materials and details to create a distinctive space that reflects the character of the surrounding neighbourhood.
– Provided a two-way cycle connection through the park, linking Chippendale to Broadway.
– Integrated the surrounding buildings, streetscapes and edges into the park.
– Provided local stormwater management through planted swales.
– Provided decorative paving, lighting and furniture to create a unique character and experience of the park.
