JILA are part of a team that recently delivered a winning entry for Stage 2 of Government Architect of NSW's Housing Pattern Book Design Competition.

The pattern book will include endorsed building designs that will guide the creation of new low-rise to mid- rise housing. The pattern book will be a useful resource for developers, architects, planners, councils, and the community. Designs that comply with the pattern book will benefit from an accelerated planning approval process.

A strong connection to the landscape fosters neighbourhood interaction and nurtures a thriving sense of community. The pattern landscape strategy is founded on three core principles: community, connection to the street, and Country and climate.

The landscape strategy aims to cultivate a sense of community by incorporating a variety of adaptable spaces and elements that cater to diverse individuals while allowing for personal expression and delight. Shade trees, diverse plantings, and deep soil landscapes contribute to climate resilience, creating an environment where both human and non-human life can thrive.

A set of replicable landscape elements has been developed, designed to be adaptable across different sites. These fine-grained components together support a sense of community and create resilient landscapes.
