Last month Constitution Avenue was awarded twice at the Australian Institute of Architects ACT awards!
A collaboration with JILA, NCA, Hill Thalis, SMEC and AECOM, the project took home the ACT’s highest architecture honour, the Canberra Medallion, and also received the Sir John Overall Award for Urban Design.
The completion of the Avenue last year marked a project that was over a decade in the making, and has realised Griffin’s vision with a project that ‘negotiates the macro and micro scale with consistency, clarity and vision’. Big congratulations to everyone involved and thank you AIA for the recognition!
This year saw the completion of some great projects, in the public domain in Canberra and Sydney. Constitution Avenue in Canberra has been completed along with Thomas & Hay Street in Chinatown, amongst others.
A selection of our recently completed projects have been awarded at a state and national level, with Forest Edge Garden taking out the AILA National Gardens Award of Excellence and Chelsea Street Park receiving the AILA NSW Landscape Architecture Award – Parks and Open Space. Campbell Section 5 (Hassett Park) was also recognised for design excellence, being awarded AILA ACT Award for Excellence – Parks and Open Space, and was highly commended in the Stormwater NSW Award for Excellence in Integrated Stormwater Design.
We wish you all a safe and happy festive season, and we are looking forward to working on more exciting projects in the New Year.
Our Forest Edge garden was recognised at the AILA National Awards last week, and was the recipient of the AILA National Gardens Award of Excellence. The jury stated:
‘Design restraint is an important tool in the landscape architecture profession, and Forest Edge uses this tool to perfection. The approach has been to bring together the site’s geology, flora and aspect, along with the transitional patterns of fire and drought, to deliver a garden that draws its aesthetic appeal from the landscape in which it sits. The design focuses on resilience, from careful species selection to careful water management regimes.
Forest Edge maintains all the usual elements of a residential garden, but it delivers these in a way that brings long-term appreciation of the wider landscape and a desire to manage and protect its delicate ecological attributes.’
Chelsea Street Playground was recognised on Thursday night at the AILA NSW Awards dinner.
Awarded the AILA NSW Landscape Architecture Award – Parks and Open Space 2016, this achievement reflects the rich collaborative environment of the City of Sydney, design specialists and the community that resulted in a unique, playful and high quality urban park upgrade.
