The Integrated Public Art and Design Framework for Auburn Town Centre was one of four projects being undertaken as part of the People Places Project in Western Sydney. The project was a partnership between Auburn Council, Wesroc, DIPNR and the NSW Ministry for the Arts, and part of a wider strategy for revitalisation of Auburn Town Centre. The Framework presents a unified and integrated public art + design strategy, as this is seen as the most secure platform to ensure that there is a multi-disciplinary approach to the upgrade of significant public spaces. The guiding principle of the framework is to bring about an integration of pragmatic needs and poetic aspirations necessary to transform a public space into a meaningful place. All public space in this sense is seen as artistic.
